01 The setting
Where the villa sits
Villa Ciel stands on the heights of Anse des Cayes, a bay on the north-west coast of Saint-Barthélemy. The three pavilions are set into the hillside above the bay, the ground falling away in front of them and the hills of the island’s spine rising behind.
The outlook is toward Saint-Jean Bay and the surrounding hills, with the ocean on the horizon.
Gustavia is about six minutes away by road, and the airport about five, in the valley behind Saint-Jean. Flamands, the next bay along the coast, is about three. The mark on the map further down this page is deliberately approximate; the exact address is shared with confirmed guests.

02 The quartier
The character of Anse des Cayes
Villas sit on the hillside above the bay, the road climbing between them.
The beach at the foot of the quartier is about two minutes away by car.
Most of the island’s restaurants and boutiques are a few minutes away, in Gustavia and along the bay of Saint-Jean.

04 Nearby
Gustavia, Saint-Jean and the airport
Gustavia — about six minutes
The harbour town and the island’s centre of gravity: the port and the boats in it, the boutiques along the quay, and most of the restaurants people book in the evening. About six minutes from the villa by road.
Saint-Jean — about eight minutes
A long beach lined with restaurants and watersports, the Eden Rock on its point and the airport immediately behind it. This is the island’s daytime side: lunch on the sand rather than dinner in town.
Gustaf III airport — about five minutes
The island’s short-runway airport sits in the valley behind Saint-Jean. On the day you land and the day you leave, five minutes is the number that matters — the villa is close enough that arriving is not a journey of its own.
05 Arriving
Getting to St Barth
There is no long-haul runway on Saint-Barthélemy, so every arrival is a connection. Three routes are the usual ones.
Via Saint-Martin (SXM)
Princess Juliana on Saint-Martin takes the long-haul flights from North America and Europe. From there it is an island-hopper flight of about fifteen minutes, operated by Winair among other island carriers, or a ferry crossing of about forty-five minutes from Marigot or Oyster Pond.
Via San Juan (SJU)
San Juan in Puerto Rico is the other common connection from the United States. Tradewind Aviation flies the leg from there to Saint-Barthélemy.
Via Guadeloupe (PTP)
Pointe-à-Pitre is the third connection, and the one that links Saint-Barthélemy to flights from mainland France.
The airport is about five minutes from the villa. The arrival and departure runs to Gustaf III are included; a transfer at any other time is arranged on request — tell us your flights when you request your dates. Schedules and fares are not published here: they change, and the airline will have them.
06 Further afield
Two more, a little further
Beyond the quarter of an hour, two places that are worth the drive.
- Lorient≈ 13 min
- A village on the north coast with a beach of its own.
- Grand Cul-de-Sac≈ 17 min
- A shallow lagoon at the east end of the island, protected by a reef.

08 Questions
About the quartier
- How far is Villa Ciel from the airport?
- About five minutes by road. Gustaf III airport sits in the valley behind Saint-Jean and the villa is on the next hillside — close enough that the drive at either end of a stay is barely a drive. A transfer can be arranged on request.
- How far is Gustavia?
- About six minutes down the hill. The harbour, the boutiques along the quay and most of the evening restaurants are there, which is why the minutes matter more than the kilometres.
- Is Anse des Cayes quiet?
- It is a residential hillside quartier with no through traffic: the cars that pass are the ones coming home. Nothing commercial stands on the lane itself; the beach at the foot of the quartier is about two minutes away by car, and the nearest beaches for swimming are listed above.
- Can you walk to a beach from the villa?
- Anse des Cayes beach is about two minutes away by car. Saint-Barthélemy’s hillside roads are narrow, steep and shared with traffic, so guests generally drive rather than walk — down to the bay, or about three minutes along the coast to Flamands.
- Do you need a car?
- A car or a scooter is the norm on the island; very little is within walking distance of anything else. Cars and scooters are usually hired locally, and the villa manager can arrange one before you land.
- How do you get to St Barth?
- On a connection. Most guests fly into Princess Juliana on Saint-Martin (SXM) and take an island-hopper flight of about fifteen minutes or a ferry of about forty-five; Tradewind Aviation flies from San Juan (SJU); and Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe (PTP) connects to flights from mainland France.
